1863 French Legation in Peking (27 Aug) to US Consul at Padang “Indes Neerlandaises & par Batavia”, showing on reverse “Legation de France/en Chine/Eagle” double-ring cachet in red, “Shanghai/Bau Français” c.d.s. (18 Sep) on front and “Batavia” c.d.s. (17 Oct) in red on reverse, rated “2 5”. The seal, though of extremely fine appearance, is affected by internal tears from normal opening of the envelope. An exceptional example of official French diplomatic mail to a most uncommon destination; very few such examples of the Legation cachet have survived in private hands. 1963.8.2 法國駐京使館寄美國駐巴塘領事館。郵簡，鈐珍罕之“LEGATION DE FRANCE / EN CHINE”戳記。9.18經上海法局。寫有“2 5”郵資字樣。10.17抵巴達維亞。此例戳記清晰，唯略受打開信件造成的裂口影響。出類拔萃之法國外交公文郵件，目的地亦頗為少見，蓋有這款使館戳者寥寥可數。
