1865 (25 Jan), stampless blue commercial entire from Hong Kong to Marseille bearing a fine strike of the double-circle “PELUSE / 26 FEVR 65”, which is a French ligne “PELUSE” type B c.d.s., together with a boxed “PD” alongside and overstruck by an oily strike of boxed instructional mark in red, the flap with Marseille arrival 6 March; Webb RR scarcity rank. A good French mail with specific French Ligne cancellation. Provenance: Ritchie Bodily Collection. 1865.1.25 香港寄馬賽，鈐法國郵船Peluse B型日戳，另見PD戳及指示戳。Webb指此日戳稀罕難得。Ritchie Bodily舊藏。

1865 (15 Jan) an entire sheet sent from Hong Kong to Saigon via Singapore, franked with HK QV 8c yellow and a pair of 6c at the bottom left-hand corner, all of which were cancelled by “B62” obliterator. On the obverse side, a manuscript rate ‘4” matching the HK QV 8c B.P.O. postage fee to Saigon, together with a forwarder oval mark “WM. PUSTAU / HONGKONG” underneath the pair of HK QV 6c. The 12c rate represented the Late Fee paid for this mail. On the flap, a French packet double-circled “LA BOURDONNAIS / 24 JANV 65”, Hong Kong c.d.s., and a double-circled Singapore c.d.s. This entire sheet is illustrated in Lee Scamp’s French Mail Paquebot Far East Itineraries page 60, in which it is stated that the mail being carried by P&O Carnatic from Hong Kong to Singapore, and then picked up by French packet steamer La Bourdonnais M.I. carried from Singapore to Saigon. An excellent mail represents an unusually complex mix of both French and British packet routing, and even more so adding the Late Fee paid feature. An extremely unique postal history item. 1872 (1 April) an unusual Hiogo mail to Bordeaux, France, franked with French Ceres 3 x 5 ctms, cancelled by “YOKOHAMA BAU FRANCAISE FR. / 8 AVIRL 72”, boxed frame “AFFRANCHISEMENT / INSUFFICIANT” in black, manuscript rate marke “1f – 3s” (i.e. 1f 30 ctms), a red double ringed transit c.d.s “PAQ. ANG. V BRINDISI / A MOD(ANE)”. On the reverse side, a slew of French transit c.d.s. This mail went through a highly unusual routing combination of PMSSCo and P&O vessels. The mail started with Hiogo where it rides on New York /PMSSCo steamer to Yokohama, and then picked up by P&O packet services from Yokohama all the way to Brindisi. The use of 15 ctms was only paid enough for the internal rate charge between Hiogo to Yokohama, and the postage due “1f3S” represents the 10 grams postage charge by the GB packet service from Yokohama to France effective 1871. Certification: Philatelic Federation of Japan Certificate. 1872.4.1 兵庫寄法國，貼五穀女神像5生丁x3，銷橫濱法局日戳及欠資指示戳。此信先經PMSSCo船隻至橫濱，再由鐵行輪船公司自橫濱送至布林迪西。而15生丁僅足以兵庫至橫濱間郵資，故被罰欠資“1f/3S”。附日本證書。

1861 (15 March) Linen envelope from the “Legation de France en Chine” to Paris (27 April) and redirected, showing superb impression of “VICE CONSULAT DE FRANCE / HONG KONG / eagle image” cachet, with “POSS. ANG. V. SUEZ / A. MARSEILLE A” entry c.d.s. in red color. On reverse side, cancelled by “HONG KONG / C” origin c.d.s. manuscript “36” (decimes) for one oz letter, minor surface faults, a truly very rare example of the Hong Kong French Consular seal that we would not be able to see much others. This French Consulate mail was carried by British P&O packet ligne “PEKIN”, “CANDIA”, “VALETTA” arrived at Marseille on 24 April.
