Entire, sent “Surat”, along with double-ringed “BRITISH GOVERNMENT AGENCY OFFICE / MACAO” type 1-3-1 seal in red and Hong Kong Post Office Webb type 4 “Royal Arms” oval seal. One of the two recorded examples in combination of these two handstamps. Cover No. 464 in “A Survey and Recorded of Pre-Adhesive Period Postal History of Macau 1616-1891” by Choi Cheong Too. One of the 82 covers applied with Royal Arms oval seal recorded by Dr. Andrew Cheung. Illustration fig 87, p. 249 in “Historia e Desenvolvemento dos Correios e das Telecomunicacoes de Macau” Vol. 1 by Luis Virgilio de Brito Frazao. 1863 (15 August) a long cover from Shanghae to New York, U.S.A., endorsed “per Messagerias Imperiales” on the lower left corner of the cover, with cancellations of “16 CENTS”, “SHANGHAE PAID / AUG 15, 63”, “LONDON PAID” transit c.d.s. (7 Oct), “N. YORK AM. PKT. / 5 / SEP 19” in black, manuscript rate mark “2/-“ in red crayon. On the reverse, SHANGHAE arrival c.d.s. in black (15 Aug 63), and Hong Kong Index C c.d.s. (21 Aug 63). This cover indicates the postage rate “2/-“ which is the earliest application of 22.8.63 HK rates for French Paquebot. The “2/-“ rate to the US by M.I. vesselis valid for only some 2 months from 22 Aug to 2 Nov, 1863 according to the Lee Scamp’s research. A rare cover with significant postal history value.. Provenance: Illustrated on page 23 of Lee Scamp’s French Mail Paquebot Far East Itineraries Vol. 2 1863.8.15 上海寄美國，鈐上海已付日戳、16 CENTS戳記、香港及倫敦中轉戳。寫有“2/-”郵資，為香港經法國郵船郵資之最早例子。Scamp指該郵資僅於1863年8月22日至11月2日生效。此封稀罕難得。Scamp《French Mail Paquebot Far East Itineraries Vol. 2》第23頁原件。

1863 (26 Oct) a cover with printed flag “PER OVERLAND VIA MARSEILLES” from Hong Kong to the U.S.A., endorsed by “Messageries Imperiales w/ Donnai”, a red color HK c.d.s. “HONG KONG PAID / 26 OC 63”, London transit c.d.s (4 Dec), New York arrival c.d.s. “N. YORK BR. PKT / DEC 19 / 5(cts)”, manuscript mark circled “5”. On the reverse side, Hong Kong despatch c.d.s. (26 Oct). The mail was carried by French M.I. steamer “Donnai” and “Moeris” to Marseilles. “Donnai” was its 3rd voyage since the introduction of French MI packet services in Nov 1862. Hence, this mail was a very early use of French M.I. line. 1863.10.26 香港寄美國，鈐香港已付日戳。12.4經倫敦。12.19抵紐約。此信由法國郵船Donnai及Moeris寄馬賽。甚早之Messageries Imperiales例子。

A pair of stampless covers: 1864 (3 Dec) a stampless cover from U.K. to Shanghai, endorsed by via Marseilles (deleted) and amended to Southampton, with two manuscript rates of “2/-” and “2”. On the reverse side, Hong Kong Index C c.d.s. in blue (25 Jan) and Shanghai arrival c.d.s. in blue as well (31 Jan). The first rate “2/-” stands for a double rate, and the latter “2” represents the inter-Treaty ports rate charge from HK to Shanghai. 1865 (4 July) a stampless cover from Shanghai to the U.S.A., cancelled by double ringed “SHANGHAE BAU FRANCAIS / 1 JUIL 65”, French transit c.d.s. “PAQ. AN. V. SUEZ AMB. MARS No.2 / AOUT 65”, a U.S. depreciated currency c.d.s. (N.Y. 60 AM PKT. / OR U.S. 80 NOTES / SEP 11”. The New York depreciated currency date stamp with “60” cents (in coin) at the top, “OR U.S. NOTES 80” at the bottom was not recorded in North Atlantic Mail Sailings, or in Winter’s 1996 update of New York Exchange Office markings. Depreciated U.S. currency marks are rare on covers from Far East, especially to those routing through French P.O. On the obverse side, a rate mark “2” (double weight) in blue crayon, and another rate “42” in blue crayon as well. The “42” rate was the amount of the French debit, leaving the U.S. 18 cents (i.e. 60 minus 42 = 18, and then 18 divided by 2 = 9 cents per quarter ounce). The American portion was composed of 6 cents sea postage and 3 cents internal postage per quarter ounce according to Mr. Hargest’s guidance. 1864及1865年一對往來上海之史前封，鈐上海法局日戳，另見多處中轉及郵船日戳。

FR. No.6 / FEVR 96” d.s. On the reverse side, Russie arrival c.d.s (26 Nov 96), HK transit c.d.s. (4/II//96 – that is Russian Julian date system, translating into our international date as 9 March 1896). An excellent French mail to a rare destination of St. Petersburg, Russia via French LIGNE N Paquebot No.6. A rare mail. 1896.1.31 上海寄俄國掛號封，貼香港票20仙 + 10仙，銷上海英局日戳。經法國郵船N線6號送遞。經法國郵船寄俄國少見。

1864 (16 Aug) an entire letter from Foochow to New York via French MI delivery, endorsed “P. Messageries Imperials str. (steamer)”, franked with HK QV 1862 24c green and 1863-71 30c vermilion, tied by “B62” obliterator in blue, manuscript rate mark “ 2/ 1½ ” in red crayon, London Paid c.d.s. (7 Oct), New York local charge “5 CENTS” accountancy mark h.s. and “PAID” h.s. in red oily shading. The flap with 2 strikes of HK c.d.s. (23 Aug); the contents give some details of trade situations in Foochow. A very good early stamped mail from Foochow before the introduction of Foochowfoo c.d.s. in 1867. The mail was carried by French MI steamer “Imperatice” and “Peluse” to Marseilles which further taken forward to New York via London. A seldom seen Foochow mail stamped with HK QV stamps in use of French MI packet steamers. Ritchie Bodily Collection. 1864.8.16 福州經法國郵船寄美國，貼香港票24仙 + 30仙，銷B62殺手戳。內容有關福州。為福州府英局日戳引進前之例子。此信由Imperatice及Peluse送至馬賽。福州寄出，貼香港票但經法國篨船寄出之難得例子。Ritchie Bodily舊藏。
