1861 Shanghai (3 Mar) to USA, rated “1/2” for British-packet-via-Southampton rate and 16c for trans-atlantic rate, applied with scarce Webb type 2 “SHANGHAE” double-arc cds and type 3 “SHANGHAE / PAID / POST OFFICE” circular seal. Transit Hong Kong (10 Mar), London (1 May), New York (17 May). Arrived Annapolis (20 May). Cover opened out for display. Webb recorded less than a dozen of example for type 2 and three covers for type 3.
