In combination with Japanese Koban 5s, tied by IJPO Shanghai (12 Oct) cds. Arrived Canada (11 Nov). Showing ctms / T" h.s. in violet and "5" and blue crayon "12-1/2". Since the 5 cents preferential rate through the Japanese Post Office was eliminated on 1 October 1897 and the rate raised to 10 cents to conform to the U.P.U. rate, the 5 cents underpayment of postage was taxed.
