1861 (28 August) a neat cover, originated in Macao, sent from Canton to Bruxelles (Brussels), franked with a horizontal pair of French Empire 20c, large to ample margins all around, tied by two strikes of "CECC" lozenges cancellation with "Corps Exp. Chine BAU C / 28 AOUT 61" double-circle datestamp on folded letter datelined "Macao le 26 AOUT 1861", addressed to Brussels, Belgium, red framed "PD" handstamp was subsequently crossed out and manuscript “nul” through the pair, red framed “AFFRANCHISSEMENT/INSUFFISENT” handstamp, Marseilles and Brussels (Oct. 17) backstamps, manuscript "6" decimes due marking. A very renowned French military postal history item. The use of such military postage was supposed to be valid for UK and France only. As a result, when it arrived in Brussels, the post officer treated it as insufficient mail (matched the French “AFFRANCHISSEMENT/INSUFFISENT” handstamp), crossed out the two French stamp, marked it as “NUL” by manuscript, together with a postage rate of “6(f)” to be paid by the recipient at Brussels.
