Great Britain to Hong Kong - Forwarded to Naval Commander via Crawle & Co. 18 February 1858, a letter franked with 6x 1d red Queen Victoria Line-Engraved stamps, each tied by the "529" barred oval cancel, routing endorsed "Via Southampton" at upper left. The cover is addressed to Vaughan T. Daves Esq., Commander of the "Arrow,", care of Messer. P.H. Cawle & Co., Hong Kong, China. A forwarding agent often held or redirected naval and commercial correspondence to foreign residents or officers serving in China. This cover was addressed to Commander Vaughan T. Daves, then in command of the HMS Arrow, a prominent vessel notably triggered the Second Opium War, which is known as the Arrow Incident broken out in October 1856. On the reverse side, cancelled by double arc Hong Kong c.d.s. (4 AP 1858), and UK's MILFORD (FE 18, 1853), and LONDON dispatch c.d.s. Daves 閣下。Cawle & Co. 為十九世紀中期駐香港的英資轉運代理商,專責接收、暫存或再轉遞海軍及商業信函,予派駐華之外籍居民與軍官。信封背面蓋有:香港雙圈日戳(1858年4月4日);英國MILFORD 日戳(1858年2 月18日);倫敦紅色發信日戳(1858年2月19日)。本件郵品收件人為Vaughan T. Daves 艦長,當時為英國皇家海軍亞羅號艦 HMS Arrow 指揮官。HMS Arrow 於1856年10月在廣州引發著名的「亞羅號事件」,成為第二次鴉片戰爭爆發的導火線,歷史意義重大。
