1950 (Jan 18) England to Hong Kong "Redirected" Airmail Cover. Sent from Watton, Norfolk to Mrs. J.D. Kelly, a passenger on the S.S. Corfu, originally addressed to Bombay via Messrs. Mackinnon Mackenzie. The cover was redirected to Hong Kong (B.A.P.O. 1) to reach the recipient at H.Q. 28 Inf Bde. It bears a GB 6d definitive tied by a Watton cancel, two "T" tax markings, and a "BOMBAY G.M.S. AIR / DUE AS." handstamp. The reverse is heavily marked with transit and arrival cancels including Bombay (Jan 24), Hong Kong (Mar 28 & 29), and Field Post Office 585 (Mar 30). Tax was collected in Hong Kong using 84c in Postage Due stamps (a 50c, a 10c, and a block of four 6c). This item represents a complex instance of redirected military mail during the post-WWII period. The 84c postage due rate was applied because the letter, originally sent as surface mail or underpaid airmail to India, was redirected from Bombay to Hong Kong via airmail to ensure delivery to the moving recipient. Under UPU and British Commonwealth rules, the 84c represents the double deficiency or the specific airmail surcharge required for the Bombay-to-Hong Kong leg, meticulously recorded by the blue manuscript "84" and realized through the rare usage of multiple Hong Kong postage due values on a single cover.1950年英國寄香港「改寄」欠資封，由諾福克郡寄往 S.S. 1954 KLM Constellation Airmail Crash Cover from Hong Kong to France Recovered from the 14 January 1954 Rome Air Crash - Nierinck 540114a Scarce crash mail originating from Hong Kong, franked with 1950s-era definitive issues totaling $0.60 and clearly postmarked HONG KONG GPO, 12 JA 54. Addressed to Monsieur Maurice Ulzear, Hôtel Scribe, Paris, France. Routed via BOAC/KLM European airmail services and destined for transit through Rome-Amsterdam-Paris. This cover was onboard KLM Flight KL633, a Lockheed L-749A Constellation, which crashed during takeoff at Rome Ciampino Airport on 14 January 1954. The aircraft had originated in Bangkok and carried airmail from across Southeast Asia, including Hong Kong, Singapore, and Indonesia. The crash resulted in multiple fatalities, but a portion of the international mail was salvaged. The front of this envelope bears a two-line Italian crash cachet applied in Rome: "Corrispondenza recuperata in seguito/incidente aereo del 14 GEN 1954" (Correspondence recovered following the air accident of 14 January 1954) Despite significant crash-related soiling and wear (as typical of recovered covers), the cachet and destination address remain fully legible. A prominent example of post-WWII airmail disaster mail, rarely seen from Hong Kong origin to a French address. 1863 (15 August) a long cover from Shanghae to New York, U.S.A., endorsed “per Messagerias Imperiales” on the lower left corner of the cover, with cancellations of “16 CENTS”, “SHANGHAE PAID / AUG 15, 63”, “LONDON PAID” transit c.d.s. (7 Oct), “N. YORK AM. PKT. / 5 / SEP 19” in black, manuscript rate mark “2/-“ in red crayon. On the reverse, SHANGHAE arrival c.d.s. in black (15 Aug 63), and Hong Kong Index C c.d.s. (21 Aug 63). This cover indicates the postage rate “2/-“ which is the earliest application of 22.8.63 HK rates for French Paquebot. The “2/-“ rate to the US by M.I. vesselis valid for only some 2 months from 22 Aug to 2 Nov, 1863 according to the Lee Scamp’s research. A rare cover with significant postal history value.. YORK BR. PKT / DEC 19 / 5(cts)”, manuscript mark circled “5”. On the reverse side, Hong Kong despatch c.d.s. (26 Oct). The mail was carried by French M.I. steamer “Donnai” and “Moeris” to Marseilles. “Donnai” was its 3rd voyage since the introduction of French MI packet services in Nov 1862. A pair of stampless covers: 1864 (3 Dec) a stampless cover from U.K. to Shanghai, endorsed by via Marseilles (deleted) and amended to Southampton, with two manuscript rates of “2/-” and “2”. On the reverse side, Hong Kong Index C c.d.s. in blue (25 Jan) and Shanghai arrival c.d.s. in blue as well (31 Jan). The first rate “2/-” stands for a double rate, and the latter “2” represents the inter-Treaty ports rate charge from HK to Shanghai. 1865 (4 July) a stampless cover from Shanghai to the U.S.A., cancelled by double ringed “SHANGHAE BAU FRANCAIS / 1 JUIL 65”, French transit c.d.s. “PAQ. AN. V. SUEZ AMB. MARS No.2 / AOUT 65”, a U.S. depreciated currency c.d.s. (N.Y. 60 AM PKT. / OR U.S. 80 NOTES / SEP 11”. The New York depreciated currency date stamp with “60” cents (in coin) at the top, “OR U.S. NOTES 80” at the bottom was not recorded in North Atlantic Mail Sailings, or in Winter’s 1996 update of New York Exchange Office markings. Depreciated U.S. currency marks are rare on covers from Far East, especially to those routing through French P.O. On the obverse side, a rate mark “2” (double weight) in blue crayon, and another rate “42” in blue crayon as well. The “42” rate was the amount of the French debit, leaving the U.S. 18 cents (i.e. 60 minus 42 = 18, and then 18 divided by 2 = 9 cents per quarter ounce). The American portion was composed of 6 cents sea postage and 3 cents internal postage per quarter ounce according to Mr. Hargest’s guidance.1864及1865年一對往來上海之史前封，鈐上海法局日戳，另見多處中轉及郵船日戳。
