Entire, sent “Surat”, along with double-ringed “BRITISH GOVERNMENT AGENCY OFFICE / MACAO” type 1-3-1 seal in red and Hong Kong Post Office Webb type 4 “Royal Arms” oval seal. One of the two recorded examples in combination of these two handstamps. Cover No. 464 in “A Survey and Recorded of Pre-Adhesive Period Postal History of Macau 1616-1891” by Choi Cheong Too. One of the 82 covers applied with Royal Arms oval seal recorded by Dr. Andrew Cheung. Illustration fig 87, p. 249 in “Historia e Desenvolvemento dos Correios e das Telecomunicacoes de Macau” Vol. 1 by Luis Virgilio de Brito Frazao. Ex- Glassco, Christopher D’Almada. 1844.3.18菲律賓馬尼拉寄廣州瓊記洋行。郵簡，正面帶有“Surat”郵船字樣、多處郵資字樣、“BRITISHGOVERNMENT AGENCY OFFICE / MACAO” 1-3-1型紅色戳記及橢圓形“香港盾徽”Webb 4型戳記。為蔡昌道記錄中，同時帶有這兩款郵戳的兩件例子之一。蔡昌道《1616至1891年澳門郵票發行前郵政史調查與紀錄》中第464件封。張文德醫生記錄之82件鈐香港盾徽橢圓戳記之信封之一。范笙祿著《澳門郵政與電訊的歷史和發展》第一卷第249頁第87號圖例原件。 Glassco及Christopher D’Almada舊藏。

1863 (15 August) a long cover from Shanghae to New York, U.S.A., endorsed “per Messagerias Imperiales” on the lower left corner of the cover, with cancellations of “16 CENTS”, “SHANGHAE PAID / AUG 15, 63”, “LONDON PAID” transit c.d.s. (7 Oct), “N. YORK AM. PKT. / 5 / SEP 19” in black, manuscript rate mark “2/-“ in red crayon. On the reverse, SHANGHAE arrival c.d.s. in black (15 Aug 63), and Hong Kong Index C c.d.s. (21 Aug 63). This cover indicates the postage rate “2/-“ which is the earliest application of 22.8.63 HK rates for French Paquebot. The “2/-“ rate to the US by M.I. vesselis valid for only some 2 months from 22 Aug to 2 Nov, 1863 according to the Lee Scamp’s research. A rare cover with significant postal history value.. Provenance: Illustrated on page 23 of Lee Scamp’s French Mail Paquebot Far East Itineraries Vol. 21863.8.15 上海寄美國，鈐上海已付日戳、16 CENTS戳記、香港及倫敦中轉戳。寫有“2/-”郵資，為香港經法國郵船郵資之最早例子。Scamp指該郵資僅於1863年8月22日至11月2日生效。此封稀罕難得。Scamp《French Mail Paquebot Far East Itineraries Vol. 2》第23頁原件。
