1846 (Dec 16), a letter sent from New York to Canton China, addressed to Mess. Augustine Heard & Co., Canton, endorsed at its lower left-hand corner “Sea Witch”. On the reverse, cancelled by a red forwarder mark “FORWARDED BY / NEW YORK / GOODHUE & CO.”, together with a manuscript writing of “Ans. to receipt of letter of 21 July (1846)”. The clipper ship Sea Witch was one of the most celebrated American clippers during 1840-50s, and a symbol of the “China Trade” era. Built in 1846 by Smith & Dimon in New York for the firm Howland & Aspinwall, she was specifically designed to speed on the New York-China route. This mail was connected to the golden age of American clipper ships and to the intensified competition of China trade after the First Opium War. This mail is believed in the first year of Clipper Sea Witch trip to Canton.

1847 (Mar 21), a letter sent from the USA to Canton, with a very fine frame of “POSTAGE PAID TO DESTINATION BY HARNDEN & Co. of LIVERPOOL” in black, sender’s directive “Overland mail” and “via Ceylon”, red “PAID/H & Co.” in flag shape, arriving Liverpool, then via Alexandria, Suez, Aden and Hong Kong, large red “ADEN B.P.P. Paid (officer signature)” in circle handstamp. On the reverse, a red oval forwarder mark “FORWARDED BY / HARNDEN & CO. BOSTON”, Hong Kong backstamp (15 June 1847), very fine, very scarce Harnden cover to China, the Aden marking is rare on Harnden covers. A very fine and rare forwarder mail from the USA to China with twice forwarded letter to Canton.

1849 (March) A double forwarders’ opened out cover sent from Hong Kong to New York, addressed to “Mrs. Annie Ward, care of James Herring Esq., Howard house, Corner of Broadway & Howard St.,, New York”, an arrival c.d.s. “NEW-YORK MAY 14/ 2 (cts)”. On the reverse, cancelled by a red oval forwarder mark in HK “FORWARDED BY RAWLE DRINKER & CO. / HONG KONG”, and a blue oval forwarder mark from London “LEMUEL GODDARD / LONDON”, together with a small pencil mark of “1849. According to the US Philatelic Classics Society references and Simpson-Alexander’s listings, the device of circular NEW-YORK / 2 (cts) C.D.S. was introduced from 1851 and remained in use into early 1860s. The date of May 14 matched with the bi-monthly itinerary of Cunard Line in May 1851. Based on this, the use of the above New York 2 cts C.D.S. is in the first year’s usage.

On the obverse, cancelled by a very fine small crown “PAID AT HONG-KONG” (Webb type 9), Spanish local postage mark “8 R”, a Spanish handstamp “ESTRANGERO CADIZ” in blue color, and a manuscript rate in red crayon “1/10”. On the reverse, cancelled by a double-arc datestamp “HONG KONG / 24 AU / 57”, an oval forwarder mark “FORWARDED BY / LYALL STILL & Co / HONG KONG” and a local handstamp in blue green “MP”. A highly good quality entire for the use of small crown HONG-KONG PAID. In very good conditions.

1844 (May 23) entire letter, from Manila to Whampoa, rated “2/” in black ink, along with double-ringed “BRITISH GOVERNMENT AGENCY OFFICE / MACAO” postmark. On the flap with Hong Kong transit c.d.s. (JU 6 1844) and oval “FORWARDED BY RUSSELL & Co. HONG KONG” seal. The letter is mostly describing the writer’s life in Manila which was very comfortable and delightful. Interesting text on the personal life in Manila.This type of handstamp was used in Macao during the period of dependency on the Hong Kong Post Office.1844年5月23日郵簡，自馬尼拉寄黃埔。正面帶有黑色“2/”郵資字樣及雙圈“BRITISH GOVERNMENT AGENCY OFFICE / MACAO”戳記。背面蓋有香港中轉戳（JU 6 1844）及橢圓形“FORWARDED BY RUSSELL & Co. HONG KONG”戳記。此信主要交代了作者在馬尼拉的愜意生意，內容頗具趣味。這款澳門戳記使用於澳門需要依靠香港郵政的時期。

U.S.A., on the front side cancelled by HK Medium Crown Paid in red, arrived c.d.s. “PAID / UO / 31 JY 31/ 1848”, manuscript rate charge of “58” in deep blue crayon, another manuscript rate mark of “4/-“, a diamond shape transit c.d.s. in black, manuscript mark “April19, 1848” in pencil. On the reverse, clear HK double arc c.d.s. “HONG-KONG / 24 MY / 1848. 1848 retaliatory rate applied to all mails arriving US between July to December 1848. Letters delivered at the port of arrival charge 24c, within 300 miles 29c, and this this cover is in 2x29c = 58c double retaliatory rate charge. 4s for 1oz letter to U.S.A. with 2s for British transit and 2s for trans-Atlantic. Retaliatory rate 58c paid by the forwarding agent in London. A very rare mail.

Entire letter, rated "1/4" and sent "via Suez", applied with Webb type 11 "PAID AT HONGKONG" circular h.s, Hong Kong double-arc transit cds (14 Apr) and oval forwarding agent seal. Very little correspondence from Amoy before the arrival of the AMOY PAID cds have survived. Webb recorded only one dated 15 Mar 1846 from the consulate to Scotland.1857.4.11 廈門經直布羅陀郵政代理Michael Power寄加的斯Jose Matia。郵簡，寫有“via Suez”及“1/4”郵資，鈐Webb 11型小皇冠“PAID AT HONGKONG”圓戳、香港雙弧中轉戳（4.14）及橢圓形轉運代理戳記。 Webb A型“AMOY PAID”日戳抵達前之廈門史前封十分稀罕少見。Webb記錄中僅見一件，日期為1846年3月15日，由領事館寄蘇格蘭。

1844 Shanghai (21 Jan) to England. Entire letter, sent "overland via Marseilles" and rated "1/10", applied with "FORWARDED BY / CHINA / HOLLIDAY WISER" and "INDIA" oval seal. Transit Bombay. Arrived London (5 May). It is the earliest recorded letter from Shanghai. Historical. Existing correspondence from this early period are scarce as the foreign population was only 90 according to Webb.1844.1.21 上海寄英國。郵簡，寫有“overland via Marseilles”及郵資“1/10”，鈐“FORWARDED BY / CHINA / HOLLIDAY WISER”及“INDIA”橢圓形戳記。經孟買。5.5抵倫敦。此為記錄中上海寄出之最早郵件。Webb指1840年代居於上海的外國人僅90名，故存世信件極罕。

1864 Ningpo (10 Feb) to Foochow via Shanghai and Hong Kong. Entire letter, rated "7 4 / 11" (7d French packet rate + 4d inter-treaty port rate = 11d), applied with Shanghae BPO Webb type 6 PAID cds and type A cds on the flap. The mail was carried by French packet Hydaspe from Shanghai to Hong Kong (24 Feb) and probably forwarded by P&O Formosa from Hong Kong to Foochow. It is the only recorded inter-treaty port example from Ningpo by French Packet at Shanghai to Hong Kong branch line.1864.2.10 寧波經上海及香港寄福州。郵簡，寫有郵資“7 4 / 11”（7便士法國郵船郵資 + 4便士商埠間郵資，合11便士），鈐上海英局Webb 6型已付日戳及A型日戳。此信先於上海經法國郵船Hydaspe送至香港，再由鐵行輪船公司送至福州。此為自寧波經法國郵船送至香港分支航線之唯一商埠間郵例。

1895 Ningpo (2 May) to Scotland. Hong Kong QV surch 4c/3c PSC, tied by extremely scarce Ningpo Webb type C Rhomboid of Dots and type B Ningpo BPO cds. Transit Shanghai BPO (3 May), Hong Kong (7 May). Between 1895-1896, a forwarding agent F F Ferris operated as postal agent and used this "Rhomboid dots" as tie-print. Less than 10 covers and postcards were recorded with this tie-print. In 2024 (Mar), AVA offered a similar stationery card with the same address, postmark and date which was hammered at HKD$85,000 (lot 2314). Both are the earliest recorded date for this Rhomboid of Dots on postcard.1895.5.2 寧波寄蘇格蘭。香港維多利亞女皇像改值4仙蓋3仙郵資片，鈐極罕之寧波Webb C型點戳及B型福州英局日戳。5.3經上海英局，5.7經香港。在1895至1896年間，F F Ferris當地營運一家郵政代理，並使用此點戳。鈐此戳者存世不足十件封片。2024年3月，艾華曾出售一件日期、地址及郵戳均相同之郵資片，並以港幣8萬5千元落鎚。兩件均為C型點戳之最早明信片記錄。
