1861 Shanghai (3 Mar) to USA, rated “1/2” for British-packet-via-Southampton rate and 16c for trans-atlantic rate, applied with scarce Webb type 2 “SHANGHAE” double-arc cds and type 3 “SHANGHAE / PAID / POST OFFICE” circular seal. Transit Hong Kong (10 Mar), London (1 May), New York (17 May). Arrived Annapolis (20 May). Cover opened out for display. Webb recorded less than a dozen of example for type 2 and three covers for type 3. Dr. Andrew Cheung recorded nine for type 3 and it is one of the three addressing to USA. 1980 (5 Dec) Sotheby Parke Bernet “The Ryohei Ishikawa Collection”, lot 586. 1863 England to Shanghai,rediretced to Yokohama. Entire letter, f.w. QV 1sh x5 + 4d for quadruple rate via Marseilles by P&O packet, tied by "2" obliterator with London d.s. Transit Hong Kong (19 Jul). Arrived Shanghai BPO with scarce Webb type 5 locally made "SHANGHAE" cds without date and type A cds. It is the only recorded example of "undated" type 5 cds and the latest record of its type. Bottom right corner damaged but not affecting postmark.1863年英國寄上海，改寄橫濱。郵簡，貼維多利亞女皇像1先令X5 + 4便士，合鐵行輪船公司經馬賽郵路之四倍郵資，銷“2”殺手戳。7.19經香港。抵上海英局，鈐少見難得之本地製Webb 5型日戳（無日期）及A型日戳。此為未植日期之5型日戳存世弧例，同時為最晚之5型日戳記錄。封右下角有損但不影響郵戳。

Arrived Shanghai BPO (16 Mar) with Webb type A cds as arrival (reverse index C). It is the earliest recorded type A cds as arrival marking.1862.3.6 香港寄上海。郵簡，寫有郵資“4”合商埠間郵資，鈐香港已付日戳及C字日戳。3.16抵上海英局，鈐Webb A型反C字到達戳。此為A型日戳用作到達戳之最早記錄。

1863 Shanghai (7 Mar) to USA. Cover front only,, f.w. Hong Kong QV 18c + 24c, in total of 42c, tied by Shanghae BPO Webb type A cds and B62 obliterator. Transit London (2 May), Boston (16 May). When adhesive was introduced in Shanghai (probably beginning of 1863), this cds was used to cancel adhesive for several months. B62 was further applied when the mails arrived at Hong Kong. However, this practice ceased due to an order given in Oct 1863 for unknown reason. It is one of the 3 recorded covers using type A cds to cancel adhesive. In Nov 2023, AVA offered a cover from Shanghai to USA with same address which was also applied with type A cds and B62 on QV 24c stamp and was hammered at HKD60,000 (lot 943).1863.3.7 上海寄美國。西式封封面，貼香港維多利亞女皇像18仙 + 24仙，合42仙，銷上海英局Webb A型日戳及B62殺手戳。5.2經倫敦，5.16經波士頓。在1863年初上海郵局開始使用郵票，並以A型日戳銷票。貼票在到達香港後再蓋上B62殺手戳。但在同年十月，此做法因不明原因被下令停止。此為三件以A型日戳銷票之信封之一。 2023年11月，艾華曾出售一件上海寄美國相同地址封，同樣以A型日戳及B62殺手戳銷票，落鎚價6萬港元（拍品號943）。

Hong Kong QV 8c in strip of 3 for 24c triple rate, tied by type I S1 obliterator in blue, matching with Shanghae BPO Webb type Bi cds in blue on reverse. Showing "per Vulcan" annotation. Arrived Hong Kong (10 Apr). Shanghai post office changed to blue ink for cancellation since Feb 1870.1870.4.5 奧匈駐滬大使館寄香港，貼香港維多利亞女皇像8仙三連，合24仙三倍郵資，銷I型藍色S1殺手戳，旁鈐上海英局Bi型藍色日戳。寫有“per Vulcan”批示。4.10抵香港。上海英局於1870年2月轉用藍色油墨銷票。

1869 Shanghai (1 Jul) to USA, f.w. Hong Kong QV 30c + 48c at top right and 6c at bottom right, tied by S1 type I and type II obliterator respectively, matching with Shanghae BPO cds on reverse. Showing "via San Francisco" annotation but actually sent via Suez. Transit Hong Kong (7 Jul), London (20 Aug). Markings "4CENTS" for trans-altantic rate and "Due 3 cents" for local redirection rate were applied. The sender probably underpaid with the top right two stamps only and he affixed the bottom left stamp afterward which explained why two types of S1 obliterator were applied. It is the only usage of two types of S1 obliterator on cover.1869.7.1 上海寄美國，右上貼香港維多利亞女皇像30仙 + 48仙，左下貼6仙，分別銷I型及II型之S1殺手戳，背面另鈐上海英局日戳。雖寫有“via San Francisco”但實際上經大西洋送遞。7.7經香港。8.20經倫敦。“4CENTS”戳記為跨大西洋郵資，“Due 3 cents”則為美國本地轉寄郵資。寄件人可能一開始只貼了右上兩枚票，後來補貼左下一枚，故解釋為何使用了兩款S1殺手戳。此為同時蓋有兩款S1殺手戳之孤品。

Hong Kong QV 2c + 6c + 16c, tied by type III S1 obliterator in black, alongside with Shanghae BPO Webb type B cds (2 May). Transit Hong Kong (8 May). Packet agency at Chefoo was not set up before 1903 and therefore this mail was first carried to Shanghai by local post.1878.4.20 煙台經上海寄澳洲，先由商埠書信館送至上海，鈐上海工部郵局5.1日戳。正貼香港維多利亞女皇像2仙 + 6仙 + 16仙，銷III型黑色S1殺手戳，旁鈐上海英局Webb B型5.2日戳。5.8經香港。煙台郵政代理直至1903年才成立，故此封需先經商埠書信館送至上海中轉。

Given the higher cost compared with British or private ships, existing examples carried by French ships are rare.
