On reverse with scarce Marine Detachment of American Embassy Peiping, China origin cds. Transit 4th Regiment USMC Shanghai China (17 Jan). Arrived Washington (21 Feb). Very sacrce diplomatic mail from US Embassy at Peiping. The USMC 4th Marine Regiment stationed in Shanghai from 1927 to 1941 to protect American citizens and their property in the Shanghai International Settlement, during the Northern Expedition and the Second Sino-Japanese War. 1938.1.6 美國駐北平大使館封寄華盛頓美國外交人員協會，正貼自由神像15分 + 阿拉斯加3分，背面鈐少見之美國海軍陸戰隊駐北平分隊始發日戳。1.17經駐上海海軍陸戰隊第四團。2.21抵華盛頓。甚為少見之美國駐北平大使館外交郵件。美國海軍陸戰隊第四團於1927年至1941年期間駐紮，在北伐和抗日戰爭期間保護上海公共租界內的美國公民及其財產。
