1861 (5 August) entire letter from Amoy to London, endorsed “via
Marseilles” and rated “1/-”, bearing a fine strike of Webb type A
“AMOY PAID” datestamp in red. The letter transited through Hong
Kong and arrived in London on 27 September. This AMOY pre-adhesive
cover was sent prior to the introduction of Hong Kong adhesives and
the sorting practices for mails from Amoy via Hong Kong, and
handled entirely within the British treaty port postal network in
Amoy directly. Webb recorded only eight such pre-adhesive AMOY
covers bearing this distinctive red AMOY cds, making this a rare
surviving example of early British treaty port correspondence from
China to Europe. A good quality pre-adhesive AMOY PAID
example..
1861年8月5日自廈門寄往倫敦的全張信函，信封左上手寫註明「via
Marseilles」，並註記郵資「1/-」，封上蓋有清晰之Webb A型「Amoy
Paid」紅色日戳。本件經香港中轉（8月），並於9月27日抵達倫敦。此為無貼票的前膠紙時期（pre-adhesive）郵件，屬於香港郵票尚未於廈門啟用前之運作模式，由英國條約港郵政系統全程處理。據Webb紀錄，僅知八件存世封蓋有此型廈門日戳，本件為廈門早期中國通歐英國郵政史實例之一，郵戳清晰，兼具歷史與郵集收藏價值。
