1878 Thin Paper Large Dragon imperf plate proof block of 4 set with
margin or corner margin, with extra circle near left claw removed.
Lightly hinged. 5ca block repaired by tape on reverse. When the die
of Large Dragon was produced, there were 3 and a half circle at the
bottom left dragon claw on 1ca while 3 circles for 3ca and 5ca.
However, the middle circle was removed before printing. Therefore,
die proof and plate proof can be distinguished by the number of
circles.
1878年薄紙大龍無齒試版樣票四方連全，均帶紙邊/直角邊。龍爪左下小圈被移除。背輕貼。5分銀背面重拼。
在大龍郵票鑄模之時，1分銀左下龍爪帶有三個半小圈，3分銀及5分銀則為三個小圓。但在正式付印前，中間一小圈被被刮去。故憑小圈數量可知此為試版樣票而非試模樣票。

Otherwise Very Fine. It was said that Mencarini picked up some
discarded cliches of Large and Small Dragon stamps in Customs. Four
dies of each denominations were selected and arranged them in the
format of block of 4 and printed with blue-black ink on thick
paper. Some of them were given to his friends as a gift. Complete
uncut proof is extremely scarce. Illustration fig 2-24, p. 26 in

1905年綿嘉義私印小龍四方連全樣張。除3分銀四方連之左下一枚帶輕微揭薄外，均上品。
據聞綿嘉義於海關造册處的廢棄鐵櫃中發現了一些生鏽大小龍票子模，每款面額都挑選出四枚，並以四方連的形式，以藍黑色墨油墨印於厚紙上。部分成品被他用作禮物贈送友人。當中未裁原張極為稀罕少見。
