1898 Hong Kong (16 May) to USA, f.w. Hong Kong QV 5c in pair, tied by Hong Kong cds, matching with US Consulate Hong Kong oval marking on reverse. Showing "Ship Mail USS Concord Manila" annotation. Transit Vancouver (8 Jun). Arrived Chattanooga (13 Jun). In May 1898, the Battle of Manila broke out. Mails from American ships were delivered to US Consulate Hong Kong for forwarding to USA. USS Concord served as one of the two active gunboats in Commodore George Dewey's Asiatic Squadron.
