Entire letter, sent “By overland India Mail”, applied with London PAID origin d.s. and Hong Kong double-arc (13 Jun) arrival cds. with Original 4 page letter & detailed research notes of Captain Lyons.Also included is a biographical dossier on Captain Edmund Mowbray Lyons, showing his service record from 1825 to his death in action at Sebastopol in 1855. Lyons was the son of Admiral Sir Edmund Lyons, one of Britain’s most celebrated naval commanders of the Crimean War. At the time of this letter, Captain Lyons commanded H.M.S. Pilot on the East Indies & China Station, making this a highly desirable piece of early Hong Kong naval postal history.
