1840 (17 Jan) Official Public Notice, from Tongkoo to Liverpool Entire letter from Turner & Co at Tongkoo to Messrs John Gladstone & Co Liverpool carried by the “Tapley”, rate “8” in manuscript with step-type “PENZANCE / SHIP LETTER” in black and Liverpool arrival datestamp (4 June); the contents was about a hand-written Official Public Notice. ：【 “The British subject detained by Chinese authorities having been release and delivered upon Her Majesty’s ship under my command. Notice is hereby given that the blockade (to Canton River) notified by me on the 8th inst. (i.e. last month) is rescind …… Given on board etc …… signed H. 1840年1月17日信函從駐銅鼓灣的英艦HMS Volage指揮官Henry Smith寄出至英國利物浦 信件由銅鼓灣（Tongkoo）的Turner & Co公司寄往利物浦的John Gladstone & Co，經由「Tapley」號船運送，手寫資費為「8」，並蓋有黑色的階梯式「PENZANCE / SHIP LETTER」戳記，以及利物浦到達日戳（6月4日）；信件內容涉及一份手寫的官方公告，其內容如下：「被中國當局拘留的英國臣民，現已被釋放並交付至由我指揮的英國女王陛下軍艦上。茲公告，於本月八日由本人所宣佈之（珠江口）封鎖令，現予以撤銷……此令於（HMS Volage）艦上發布……簽署：H.
